Overview METROGARD’s Loss Control (LC) department strives to identify workplace hazards and provide training in support of our clients’ own safety efforts to reduce or eliminate these loss sources. We feel this is part of our overall responsibility to you, our customer. METROGARD LC has a variety of on-site defensive driving courses based around the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving - “Coaching Series”. These training courses are not intended to train new drivers; they are geared for individuals who have years of driving experience. The courses are designed to remind drivers of defensive driving techniques that should be used to make good decisions in attempts to avoid accidents. Also, these sessions will introduce new techniques that will help drivers to fine-tune their collision-prevention skills. Courses are customized and can be designed to run between 1 to 3 hours in length. There is no charge to METROGARD customers. Course Objectives
Ø Review statistical information - Most common types of accidents, fatalities, and other vehicles involved in bus accidents. Ø Discuss key elements of defensive driving that should used to maintain safe driving distances between other vehicles, signaling early to notify other drivers of your intentions and scanning the driving area in front of and around the vehicle to prevent collisions. Ø Address special conditions that can affect an individual’s ability to drive safely such as poor weather conditions, day & night visibility problems and driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Ø Review defensive driving techniques for situational driving problems such as: parking, backing, loading and unloading your bus, Railroad crossings and driving in commercial areas. Participants watch a series of video presentations and then apply information from the video to answer questions, review safe driving procedures, and analyze driving situations in a response booklet. Participants are more likely to understand and retain information by writing in the free take-home response booklets. Note-taking outlines and other handy reference materials are also included.
